PV solar & power factor

What solar does to your power factor

Enter the power factor and target, the load as kW, kVA, or current (3-phase, 400 V), then the PV solar size. The animation corrects to your target, then shows solar cutting the grid kW while the kVAr stays put — and what that does to the power factor. If the solar is larger than the load, the site starts exporting to the grid.

Enter your load, power factor and solar size above, then press Show the effect of PV solar.

Power triangle with PV solar Real power kW as the base, reactive power kVAr vertical, apparent power kVA as the hypotenuse. The load corrects to the target power factor, then PV solar reduces the grid kW while kVAr is held constant; if solar exceeds the load the base crosses the origin into export. kW solar kVAr kVA φ pf 0.99
